End of Watch
Release date: 06-03-2013
We like it when we’re given an alternative spin on a familiar genre and End of Watch is certainly different thanks to its pseudo documentary style. Brian Taylor (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Mike Zavala (Michael Peña) are a couple of keen, young LAPD officers who tackle the mean streets of Los Angeles. Meanwhile, their private lives are equally as complicated as LA’s seedy tracks. Brian’s head-over-heels in love with his girlfriend Janet (Anna Kendrick) and Mike’s wife Gabby (Natalie Martinez) is heavily pregnant. One night, on a routine run, the officers chase an SUV driver for a traffic violation and discover a wad of cash and exotic firearms that they later confiscate. When the driver’s bosses hear what’s gone down, they’re not at all happy and suddenly, Brian and Mike become wanted men. End of Watch offers you a glimpse into the gritty and volatile world that cops face on the nightly beat while the camera-work tricks you into thinking that you’re watching found-footage.
