If you go to see a movie based on a Nicholas Sparks novel, you pretty much know what youre in for (remember, this is the author that gave us A Walk to Remember and The Notebook). During a two-week stint at home from the special forces, Army Sergeant John Tyree (Channing Tatum) falls head over heels in love with Savannah Curtis (Amanda Seyfriend), a college student at the University of North Carolina. The couple form a deep bond during their time together spurring Savannah to promise to write to John over the next twelve months after she heads back to college and he returns to battle. But their love is tested when John volunteers to extend his term of duty after the 9/11 terrorist attacks on New York. Something tells us that these two lovers are doomed. Why? Well, theyre trapped in a world created by Sparks where happily ever after barely exists. |
