Theres a general perception that true stories always have a certain amount of snore factor about them but Beneath Hill 60 cant be slotted into that category. Set in 1916, Oliver Woodward (Brendan Cowell) is a mining engineer whos just discovered the love of his life in Marjorie (Bella Heathcote). But their intention to live happily ever after has hit a major snag when Woodwards forced to join the Australian 1st Tunnellers on the Western Front after the outbreak of the first World War. In a bid to eliminate thousands of German troops that have gathered above the ground, Woodward and his platoon secretly attempt to build a labyrinthine tunnel system jam packed with enough explosives to cause one massive explosion. Beneath Hill 60 is so gripping that itll have you asking why we know so little about a part of Australias war history that played such a pivotal role in the outcome of the war. |
