Why is the end of the world such a popular topic in modern day cinema (think The Road, 2012 and so on)? Who knows but when it comes to the big screen, no one does it better than Denzel Washington. Here, he plays Eli, a man who casts a lone shadow in the near future. Hes walking Westward across the dangerous wasteland that America has been transformed into. His weapons are his only friend as he clings onto his backpack and a big old tattered copy of the Bible. Arriving at an outpost in what was previously California, he soon meets the tyrannical Carnegie (Gary Oldman), a crazed man in search of the one book that will award him with absolute power. After befriending Carnegies stepdaughter Solara (Mila Kunis) and learning of her step fathers evil plans, Eli realises that its up to him to protect the one book that has the power to change the world and save mankind. |
