Some films success hinge on the performance of its lead actor and when thats the case, youre in pretty safe hands when Michael Douglas is in control. Here, he puts in one stellar performance as Ben, a New York car dealer whose fast talking and charm doesnt hide the fact that hes destined for one place: rock bottom. The only question that remains is just how long its going to take him to get there. Bens problems arent exactly minor. Hes not getting any younger, is embroiled in a job scandal and has a serious heart problem. His solution? To seek comfort in the arms of women: the more (and the younger), the better. His conquests include Allyson (Imogen Poots), Jordan (Mary-Louise Parker) and Nancy (Susan Sarandon) but theres one woman who has completely given up on him, his own daughter. All seems lost until he meets Daniel (Jesse Eisendberg), a student who still holds a little ray of hope for Ben. |
